Dusting A Home

Let’s face it. Most of us don’t enjoy the art of dusting. While our company does comprehensive dusting as a basic service every visit, if you dust just once a month, it’s one of the easiest ways to get your place looking better than the average home. We always start from the top then down.

Dusting ceiling fans, high cobwebs is a good place to start when cleaning your house, apartment, condo, townhouse because it gives you the opportunity to pick things up off the floor, fluff pillows and cushions, fold throw blankets, and perform basic tidying.

When dusting your place, if you miss an area, it’ll be quite visible within a couple of days as compared to everywhere else, so be thorough a good rule of thumb is to go over your work at least 3 times.

Important: I recommend you do not need to use furniture polish like Pledge. Save your money! I mean it makes your wood furniture have product build up and it really doesn't repel dust like the good marketing tell us. I’ve tried a bunch of different products and the best is a damp microfiber cloth works the best and with the best results. Microfiber cleaning cloths also work very well for dusting as well as for mirrors and glass. Also, the old fashion African ostrich feather duster works like

a charm. Don't be sold on the marketing of swiffer bull.

Moving Items

It’s important to take the time to move items prior to dusting, in addition, clean the items that you removed. This is actually more efficient than picking up each item and dusting under it. If you’re worried about how things looked before you moved them and want to make sure everything goes back exactly the same, you can always take a picture on your cell phone or camera before you start.

Window Ledges

When dusting window ledges, raise all blinds or curtains to access all ledges. Don't forget to clean the inside of windows the blinds and then the window sills. Remember you may need to go back and redo the areas once the dust settles down to the floor.

Ceiling Fans

Once you get your ceiling fans clean, it’s a cinch to do it every time. I’ve seen many ceiling fans that can be easily reached by a broom handle pole that has a ceiling fan attachment. I would recommend not climbing

on a stool or a ladder unless it's super tall ceilings. I highly recommend hiring a professional when it comes to vaulted ceilings.

Baseboards

We always do baseboards second to last. Most services never touch them because you don't need them cleaned every single time. They are one of the key elements to making your house look clean and edging does get those spots, corners that make the cleaning pop even more. Even if you clean everything else, dirty baseboards will stick out. If you haven’t got to your baseboards in a while and they are really dirty, then clean them with a damp mop and/or vacuum them. Some services still

hand wipes all of your baseboards by hand.

Door Jams & Light Switch Plates

A damp cloth with a little degreaser cleaning product on it will look after these easy to miss areas.

Patio Doors

Patio doors, entry doors are a must. Watch for nose prints from dogs or hand prints with little children are around. Clean patio door makes it look new again.

These other areas are all part of what I consider to be basic dusting that you can do if your time is limited and you’re just trying to tidy up a bit and get your place looking fresh quickly. Act like somebody important is stopping by for a pop in visit. For 15 min cleaning around your house,

apartment, condo, and highrise. You will so surprised what you can accomplish in just 15 min daily cleanings. If you hate to clean or hate to dust I would recommend hiring a maid service, cleaning service.

Basics that should not be missed include bed frames including the side rail, the side of cabinets and armories, door panels, banisters, stairs and spindles, chair legs and bases, curtain rods, pictures and their frames, stairwell ledges, dining room table legs and bases.

If your house has a lot of vacuuming, you should lift the cushions on

your couches and dust crumbs and debris onto the rug or floor. This saves time when vacuuming and avoids having to pull out the vacuum again later when you notice this.

Make sure the are hung very securely on the wall. You don't want to start dusting or cleaning it and your beloved wall hanging falls onto

the ground into millions of pieces. I tell all my clients to make sure your

wall hangings are secured on the wall. We would be so sad to see some one's wall hanging fall off and break. Don't forget one thing turn up your favorite music and have fun cleaning.
